District Governor Judy
The 2020-2021 Rotary Year

Judy Cocherell joined the Rotary Club of Cape Henry in 1994. She served the club as President in 2004-2005 as well as 2015-2016. She served as Area Governor both in 2005-2007 and from 2016-2018. She has been Cape Henry Social Chairman for 20 years. Judy has been involved in District Events for many years. She was District Conference Co-Chair in 2008 and was the 2018 Conference Chair.  She was the 2010 District Assembly Chair. She has participated in two District Friendship Exchanges both to England (2008) and to Germany (2011). She is a Paul Harris Fellow +8 and a Major Donor. She has received the Rotary International Avenues of Service Award in 2006. She was Cape Henry Rotarian of the Year in 2000 and 2011.
Judy was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and moved to Birmingham, Alabama for high school and college. She attended Auburn University where she graduated with honor. She taught school for a number of years in the elementary school and received a MA in Elementary Education in Reading from University of Alabama in Birmingham. She was both a Title 1 Reading Teacher and a Reading Resource Teacher.  
She spent the next 7 years in Pharmaceutical Sales calling on Physicians and Hospitals in the Tidewater Area. Her parents owned a Real Estate Company so she decided to use her sales abilities in Real Estate. Judy has been in the Real Estate Industry over 30 years both as a Broker Associate and as a Managing Broker. In 1992 she received an Executive MBA from William and Mary College where she became a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honorary. She is presently an Associate Broker selling Real Estate for Howard Hanna William E. Wood in Virginia Beach.
Judy has served three terms as a Director of the Hampton Roads Realtor Association, one year as Director of Virginia Association of Realtors, and four years on the Sales Manager’s Advisory Board for the MLS, including two as the Chair. She is a Past Member of the Bays Edge Condominium Board and served as Vice President. She is a Past Board Member of the William and Mary Southside Alumni Association.
Judy has two grown daughters (who are both Paul Harris Fellows), and two grandchildren. She enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family and her Bichon, Louis Vuitton. She enjoys Rotary activities and is active in a local book club.
